Land and Labor Acknowledgement

The WABC operates on the ancestral homeland of the Nooksack, Lummi and other Coast Salish peoples. We acknowledge our collective debt to the Indigenous peoples of this land whose labor was forced and exploited.

Please take a moment to expand your own understanding of the indigenous experience, past, present, and future.

Indigenous Beginnings is a native-run non-profit organization created to help spread cultural teachings through workshops and activities. Founded by a Nooksack tribal member and a Tulalip community member, Indigenous Beginnings hosts a variety of cultural workshops and helps tribal members connect to their traditional lifeways.

Bellingham Racial History Timeline

About the project:

This project is a collaborative initiative of university faculty, students, and community members – from diverse racial backgrounds – who care about the future of Bellingham.

The lack of racial diversity in Bellingham is not an accident. Colonization, followed by a history of discriminatory practices, policies, and events, have shaped our city. We have to understand our history to create a future in which everyone belongs and can flourish together.
