About the Classes

On the Money: On the Money is a series of free financial seminars offered at WorkSource Whatcom (corner of Prospect & W. Champion) every Thursday from 1:00-2:30pm.  All seminars are free and open to anyone.  On the Money seminars count as a WorkFirst activity.  Registration is not required.

The Whatcom Dream: “Our financial literacy classes meet once a week for 12 weeks at various locations throughout Whatcom County.  All of our courses cover the following topics: Values, Budgeting, Goal Setting, Banking, Debt Reduction, Credit Repair, Consumerism, Insurance, Transportation, Home Ownership, Retirement and Investing.  The cost for the 12 week course is $65.00 for an individual, $100.00 for a couple. All materials are included. Scholarships are available on a limited basis.”

F.L.A.R.E. (Financial Literacy and Renter’s Education): “FLARE classes are designed to increase adults’ knowledge of how to budget and save money so that participants can work towards their financial goals. The class also strengthens tenant knowledge of the rental process in order to successfully obtain and maintain housing. Pre-registration is required. If you’re interested, contact the Opportunity Council at (360) 734-5121.”

Whatcom Love INC Budget Boot Camp: “for members of our community who need help and coaching with their finances and financial habits plus practical financial knowledge and skills. Our program is unique in our community in that it is free of charge and provides one-on-one financial coaching!  Our budget coaches are experienced people who are passionate about helping people, non-judgmental and folks just like the rest of us.  Our budget coaches will provide information, skills, mentoring, hope and prayer.”

Kulshan Community Land Trust Homebuyer Education: “Would you like to become a homeowner? Are you not sure whether you can afford to be or how to go about it? Attend KulshanCLT’s HomeBuyer Education course series and empower yourself with the information you need to become a successful homeowner.”

MoneySense at WWU: “The Mission of Money Sense is to raise awareness for the need of personal financial literacy in high school and college students. Money Sense strives to prepare students for successful long term financial decision-making through college seminars and high school presentations.” Topics include credit cards and credit scores, insurance, and loans.
